Procrastinator's Party- Children Table and Chairs - DONE!!

A little less then two weeks ago I signed up at The Inspired Room Procrastinator's Party. Although I have been out of town two weekends in a row, a rough week with one child, and just life happenings, I made it a personal goal to complete this project for me!!! I am proud to say it is DONE!!

BEFORE: (What in the world was I thinking?)

A week after I signed up for the party I made my plans...

Work in Progress:

This isn't right: Grrrrr!!

Miss Lawson helping mommy (the final day)

After: I LOVE IT!!!

Saving the Table and Chairs: This is my 3rd attempt at painting this table and chairs. It was the final straw. If this attempt did not work, I was seriously considering throwing it in the dumpster, because it was not meant to be in my home. Luck was on this table and chairs side because now it resides in my kitchen!!

Finishing a project feels good: It is not perfect and does not look like my drawing, but I am not a painter nor an artist, I am a Wanna-Be!! Once I was done and all the frustrations of this project were behind me, Lawson and I did the "Finished Dance" Oh the joy of showing my daughter how it feels to finish something and to be proud of your work!!!

Lessons Learned: I didn't realize until this project how much fun distressing is. Oh my goodness!! I can see how you can get a little "Distressing Happy" Fun stuff!! I normally let my furniture get distressed from 2 kids and a dog, but why should they have all the fun?????

Here are the chairs with their names on them...

Lawson sitting at the new table!!

Melissa was honest about not finishing her project, I will be honest too... I still have to seal the table and chairs, but today is too humid to polyurethane (I promise). Plus, looking at these pictures I am wondering if I should paint the legs black...

Thanks Melissa for hosting such a great Party. It felt wonderful to get one of (many) my projects complete!!!

Procrastinators Party!!

Looks like I am not the only one out in blog land that procrastinates. The Inspired Room is having a Procrastinators Party and leave it to me to be fashionably late!! I first had to find a project that I've been procrastinating on!! HAHA!! That is a laugh!! All I have to do is look to the right or the left of my computer and I can find about 5-6 in this room alone!!

Although there are plenty of undone/unfinished projects in my house, I really wanted to challenge myself and do a project that I have been putting off. Since this party is the exact type of motivation I need to get my act together I picked my children's table and chairs that I keep in the kitchen. The deal is you pick a project that you have been procrastinating on, show it to everyone and then in 2 weeks show the completed project.

Before:

The story on this table. My daughter received this as a gift when she was 18 months old from her Nana and Dah and they got it at Ikea unfinished. Well, I painted it a fish theme and quickly got tired of it and painted it white. Then it sat primer white for about a year. Then I decided I was going to make it a chalkboard table. Well, good idea in theory but I am not a big fan of chalk dust in my house. Especially, when my child can make a fresh piece of chalk into a nub in 2 minutes. Now I believe all children's chalk belongs on the sidewalk.

Here it sits in my kitchen undone, untidy for almost 2.5 years. From afar it looks okay but up close it is a mess. I am challenging myself to get this painted!! I can do it!! I just need an idea. Anyone have a good idea to pass along? I would really appreciate it.

I am such a slacker!! I just realized I have even posted about my procrastinated painting projects!! Even more reason to get this done!!

Stay tuned!!! In two weeks (even though I will not be in town for any of weekends during that time) I will have this done!! I am off to find inspiration from someone out there!!

Good luck to all of the other procrastinators out there participating in the Procrastinators Party!! We can do it!!

Procrastinated Painting Projects

I am going to list some of my painting projects that I've procrastinated on WAY TOO LONG!!

Did I mention before my parents are pack-rats and I got it honestly? Well most of the items below came from my parents home. We don't throw ANYTHING AWAY!! Which isn't a bad thing. Why throw something away with some type of value, right??? It just means to keep these items in your home they have to be rejuvenated to match your home decor, which means there is always a lingering "project."

Below is a desk that belonged to my paternal grandmother, then it was my sewing desk in high school, and now sits in my garage waiting to go into my daughter's bedroom.

No idea where this actually came from, but got it from my parents house.

My mom's aunts table, she was going to throw it away but my mom claimed it. She never painted it, and now it sits in my house waiting to be painted (again).

Children's table and chairs gone wrong (from Ikea). I can admit it! I am really hoping to one day enter this into Sanctuary Art's Open House one day. But it needs a MAJOR OVERHAUL before I do that! This table and chair project has truly stumped me (for about 3 years)!! I thought I was going to make it multi-functional with chalkboard paint, but it just doesn't work for me and looks really bad!! Now I am thinking something simple, but just don't know what. Do you have any suggestions? I really need some-HELP!!

I included a picture of my kitchen decor so you can see what I am working with.

Spring is in the Air

Now that the cushions, dress, and collars are done- I need to start cracking on some other nagging projects that loom. Let's see first there is the front door. It is spring and I WILL have a wreath on my door!!! SO for added motivation I bought a grapevine wreath and a "Spring" sign for me to make a wreath. My floral expertise are ZIP, ZERO, NULL!! But, I am on a budget and need a new wreath. So I had these floral flowers from an old arrangement ( I never throw anything away) And nothing says spring like a Forsythia Bush!

So this weekend I hope to make a wreath out of these supplies.

THEN...
I hope to finish this little shelf for Lawson's room. The story behind this is hilarious.

Lawson and I have been busy painting. It is one thing to get it all painted, it is a whole other story to get it painted AND hung up!!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
LASTLY- On March 10th I will be participating in the The SITS Spring Fling giveaway. I can't wait to show you what I have. So stay tuned for my Give Away!!
