Something needs to change...

Fall is a wonderful season, and I love everything about the fall...except for the unforgiveness it provides with the direct hits from the sunshine. You know what I am talking about, right? In my home, I can see how dirty my windows are, the dust in small crevices, and how colors in my home are JUST NOT RIGHT!!

See how this wall use to separate my den and kitchen, I was able to use two different reds and no one seemed to notice.

Now that the wall is open...the reds clash and it REALLY bothers me...do you see it??? Also, it seems to me that I am fighting with the spirit of this home as well. Our home is a traditional '80s home, and not that I am in love with '80s style, I feel like to honor the spirit of the home (yes I think their is a spirit of a home) I need to stick with something more traditional/classic with a 21st century designs. Right now the kitchen seems to contemporary for the house....

Since money doesn't grow on trees around here, I am not able to buy new curtains or even make new ones. Add to that, I am also getting tired of the yellow paint, but too many other projects to contend with right now. That leaves me two choices...

a) deal with it curtains
b) find another solution

I chose, B. I was rummaging through some old pictures and was reminded of the FIRST set of curtains I made 3 years ago. These might fit the bill????

The color is perfect, the design (Maridith Original) is unique, an it is FREE!! (Picture from my daughter's first birthday)

I realize as I get older the more particular (anal) I am getting. I went cheap cheap 3 yrs ago and did not line them. BIG MISTAKE... DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON LINING...

That left me this weekend lining them with an old sheet... (making a curtain liner is harder to do after curtains are constructed!!!!)

Here is the new look.... What do you think...better? If you don't think so tell me why... I can take it... I am a big girl...

Okay, there is still the chairs in the old fabric...

A women's job is never complete!!

Walls are coming down...

On Friday, my husband came home saying he wanted to do a home project this weekend. Instead of jumping out of my skin with excitement and saying "So do you want to do A, B or C?" I calmly (smartly) said "So what are you thinking about?" he said "Maybe the wall?"

Now flashback to 3.5 years ago when we moved into this house and during the walk-through I say "This wall should come out so it would open up the den and the kitchen" and I just hear an "uh-huh" from hubby.

Well, apparently with enough, shall we say "encouragement," hubby has decided it is time to "work on the wall." The walls are coming down and kids it is time to go to the pool!!

Before: Looking from the garage door (the door we use to enter and exit our home) to the kitchen

Before: Looking towards the den and garage door.

When I came home from the pool hubby says to me "do not yell"...It was really hard to contain myself... it was awesome!! Lawson of course says "daddy I am mad at you, you put a HOLE in our wall. You shouldn't do that!!!!"

This is the view I need with 2 kids!!!
My hubby, hard at work...

Now that it is so open I might rethink my colors....(shhhh don't tell hubby, he might flip-out). He is such a good guy!!! He love to make me happy and I am REALLY HAPPY!!!! Can't wait to show you the finished project in a couple days!!!
Note: The fish tank is still in the house, but after much discussion the beloved fish tank is now in the foyer. I will show pictures later.

Show us where you live- Kitchen

Kelly's Korner is hosting Show us where you live Friday. My friend, Heather, told me about it yesterday while we were out to dinner, she is one of my friends I made banana bread for :)

She told me she was going to participate and I originally told I was not, because my kitchen is my least favorite room in the house. As I was cleaning to leave for the weekend (yes I clean so when I come home after a weekend away everything is nice and clean for the first 2 seconds when we arrive) I decided I was going to participate. My feeling is you only know how far you've come if you are honest about where you started!! So I am showing my kitchen!!

Welcome to my kitchen...

This is the view coming from the garage through the den..

Notice the mismatched chairs for the kids? We have a wooden princess chair for my daughter and an NCSU for my son. Why you ask? Because I was tired of recovering the seat cushions every time we had a function at the house and the kids like having their own personal chairs. No arguments of who sits where.

The cabinets were originally brown and hubby painted them white for me. Now I want to paint them with a glaze like Kelly's cabinets but I have a feeling that will never happen. I would also like new counters but that is way down on the list!!! I did make the curtains and I really love my curtains!

The view from the kitchen looking back to the den.

Fridge and pantry! My two favorite pieces are right here. The rooster from Pier One and the chalkboard I redid.

Up close of my 9x9 kitchen. It is small but it does the job!! Plus, I am not a big cook so it isn't a big deal. The item I dislike the most is the original 1988 stove. It is so old and yucky I can't stand it, but money doesn't grow on trees and my husbands theory is "if it isn't broke we are not getting a new one" grrrr!!
This is my humble kitchen. Thanks for stopping by!!!
